Garbage Talks

In December of 2009, our Environment Club conducted a garbage audit. We learned that as much as eighty percent of what we were sending to the dump could have been recycled, composted, or reused. In response, we expanded our recycling of refundable drink containers to classrooms through a green bin program, and we added collection of 1-2-4-5 plastic containers, glass jars and cans. We also undertook a composting pilot project. We placed compost bins in our halls, the cafeteria and the Staff Room. Our Foods teacher and our Cafeteria staff are separating organics as well. We collect organic waste every day and work hard to maintain the proper balance of carbon and nitrogen. Our video tells the story of the work we are doing to reduce our waste stream.
