BC Green Games is awarding $22,000 in prize money directly to schools to sustain and support environmental action projects in the spirit of BC Green Games and the winning project.

Members of the public will choose the recipients of two “K-7 Viewer’s Choice” and two “8-12 Viewer’s Choice” awards valued at $500 apiece. Online Voting is in March 2011 (note: prize amounts and dates are subject to change).

Ten $1000 prizes for elementary entries and ten $1000 prizes for secondary entries will be decided by expert judges in the field of environmental education and environmental science using the established criteria:

Criteria Students will:
Environmental Responsibility
(60%)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of societal issues related to environmental concerns
  • Use resources wisely; practice conservation
  • Describe environmentally and socially sound strategies that produce a positive, lasting impact on school or community
Creativity and Innovation (30%)
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in identifying and representing solutions to the environmental challenge
  • Demonstrate a clear action plan showing a sustainable solution that benefits school or community
  • Demonstrate commitment to the project in new and interesting ways
Communication (10%)
  • Present a clear, concise, creative and informative message using an appropriate medium to communicate the purpose and outcome of the project to multiple audiences
  • Describe the solution and summarize lessons learned
  • Practice legal and ethical behaviour

 

All participating schools will receive a celebration package to recognize their green efforts.
