After learning about non-renewable energy, students investigated various forms of alternative energy from renewable sources through a web quest. Alternative energies investigated included solar, wind, biomass, nuclear, geothermal, and hydro energies. Each student then chose one renewable energy to research, then created a poster and become experts in their chosen energy source. Posters had to include a hand-drawn diagram related to the energy source. (Art is an important part of STEAM!) The students held a gallery walk to educate classmates about their chosen energy source. Other students (and a few teachers) from the school were invited to see the posters and learn about alternative energies. After the gallery walks, student in the class took part in a debate about which alternative energy would be best for the future of Canada. Opinions were mixed, as each source has its pros and cons, but the students all concluded that alternative energy sources need to be a major focus in Canada's future.
