This year the Greendale Global Guardians have continued to be leaders in the district with our composting and recycling program.  We have educated the School District Office on what materials should be composted and recycled.  We are now the only elementary school in Chilliwack participating in a pilot project where we have bins in common areas and no garbage in the classrooms.

We wanted to include our entire school in our goal of educating our students about our impacts on the habitats of plants and animals. We took the all of our students to Grouse Mountain to see animals and plants in their natural environments.

We have also built an outdoor classroom that we will be able to use in the spring.  We also have each class taking one of our planter boxes and growing a vegetable that the students can harvest and then take to a local food bank.

We have tried to focus on doing activities and events that include our entire K-6 community as well as the community school users that we have. In February, we will be having our 3 rd annual National Sweater Day. We will turn the heat down by 2 degrees Celsius and wear an extra sweater. This will help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We then offer hot chocolate to everyone in the school. The students bring their own mugs in, so we have no waste being produced by paper cups.

Thank you for taking the time to review our team's submission.
