The kindergarten children of division 23 began our inquiry about germs during the cold and flu season of winter. Why were so many of us getting sick?

We found out that germs grow everywhere!  We tested a few surfaces in our classroom to see what kinds of germs grew on them using agar gel.  Germs were everywhere!

But are all germs bad?  To explore good germs that we need in our day to day lives, we made yogurt in classroom.  With the help of Friderike Moon, we also observed how bacteria turns food scraps back into soil.  And we definitely need soil to grow the tasty vegetables we need for energy.

It turns out that we all need germs to live!  Especially the good ones!
